Seattle Fibromyalgia Solution
Fibromyalgia is as real as any other illness seen in doctor's offices.
Fibromyalgia (FMS) affects between 2% and 10% of the population while roughly 85% of those sufferers are
women. 3 to 6 million Americans experience chronic aches and pains like you feel during the first stages of
getting a cold or flu virus.
According to the American College of Rheumatology, 25.3% of all FMS patients are so affected as to be unable to
work. 36% of all Social Security Disability payments go for FMS.
FMS is known as a "garbage can" diagnosis. There are no lab tests or X-rays that indicate FMS and it's diagnosed
primarily to rule out other illnesses. This diagnosis is made where there is pain for more than 3 months combined
with a positive "tender point exam" with a minimum of 11 tender points out of 21 possible places on the body.

Craig,
I just wanted to write to tell you how my life has improved since working with you. I wish I would
have found you a few years ago. I used to see a rheumatologist for fibromyalgia and could barely
walk. Today, I'm active, working out and recently started my own business!

It will hearten you to know that, based on a battery of psychological tests, over 70% of FMS patients do not
have significant psychological problems. Most of these occur after the onset of symptoms due to it's disabling
effects and it is the most common cause of widespread pain seen in the medical office. You are as mentally normal
as anyone else if you have FMS and it is not "all in your head."
FMS patients report all sorts of other ailments as well including Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Chronic Fatigue.
Some get tired just from getting out of bed. Many are hypersensitive to stress, the weather changing, allergies
etc.
It is not caused by another disease nor depression or anxiety. Many times it comes on after traumatic
accidents, surgeries or major stresses.
As outlined in the Medical Hypnosis page. I work with
you to undue one of the main causes of FMS, unresolved repressed negative emotions and also to teach you
how to turn off pain. Improving the quality of sleep has also been shown to reduce symptoms.
This takes between 8-12 sessions, on average, with sessions once a week. You will begin to experience at
least some relief right away in the first sessions.
I do want you to know that I am not a physician and I require your primary care doctor to sign off a referral
that it is ok to work with you. Hypnosis for Fibromyalgia is not medicine but complementary to your doctor's
care.
A 1991 study of 40 patients was reported on in the Journal of Rheumatology 18 (1) P72-75: "In this
controlled therapeutic trial in patients with refractory Fibromyalgia, hypnotherapy was more successful than
physical therapy in improving complaints...the reduction in pain medication used by the hypnosis group was quite
remarkable."
