Hypnosis for Fears: How To Overcome It

Never in my adult life have I heard so much fear and negativity as I have in the last 2 months.  I don’t even need to acknowledge the reasons behind it here in this article because, let’s face it, you’re already well aware.

Allow me to shake up your belief systems for a minute here by daring to suggest that FDR was absolutely right when he said: “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”

I know you’re response to that question might be something like: “Easy for you to say, you didn’t just lose half your retirement…or your job…or your (whatever).”
My answer to that would be: “How does doing all of that fear help you get back to where you want to be?”

You see, fear is useful as are all emotions…even the negative ones we don’t like. For instance, when you are in the woods and a cougar or bear growls, that’s a good time to have fear. It’s also a good time to have fear when you’re in an unfamiliar place at night and you hear gunshots.

On the other hand, experiencing fear hurts us when we are about to go in for a job interview. It causes us to stumble on our words and project clumsiness. Not something an employer wants to see is it? Many folks losing their jobs right now are facing the fact that they have to start their own business. I regularly see folks who are scared to death to make phone calls, network or do public speaking. Did you know that public speaking is the number one fear in surveys all over the world? Folks are more afraid of that than even death.  I myself used to literally shake and shiver when I first began as an entrepreneur. I got over it and so can you.

So the object of the game is to have fear only when it works for or helps us right? Here are some concrete steps you take to train your body to respond at times that support your goals, desires and purposes…and let go of the fear.

1. “I am bold, I only do fear for physical danger.”  You want to make that statement to yourself regularly, powerfully, loudly and often throughout your day. Notice and feel your body while you say this with a big smile.  What picture comes up in your mind as you speak it? Use that picture and that feeling at those times when you used to have useless fear.

2 Acknowledge that every minute of your time here is precious.  Every one of us knows somebody who left us at too young of an age and we also know that it can happen to us.  What do you think a person who just passed away would say to you if you told him that you were afraid of losing your job? Puts things in a bit of perspective now doesn’t it?  How would a soldier in the Middle East respond to you if you told him you are afraid of making a cold call or starting a business?

3. Stop watching and listening to all of that negativity.  How does it help YOU to listen to political debates between pundits? Does it really support your life to watch TV shows about murders or other mayhem? Watch and read just enough to be informed for your life and no more. Spend more time learning about yourself, laughing with others, singing to your favorite music. In these tough economic times, you want to perform your best. When you feel good, you achieve more…that is undeniable. From a pure logical standpoint, you can’t afford to be negative anymore, it’s just too competitive out there.

4. Meditation, prayer, self-hypnosis, conscious breathing.  Whatever you want to call it, just do it. This resets the body’s stress mechanism allowing it to perform better and clears out the junk that’s clouding your thinking.  People heal themselves of incurable diseases every day doing this.  Fear and anxiety can disappear the same way. The more you do this, the more your body will become trained to respond to your directive to calm down whenever you want.

5. Feel the fear and do it anyway. Stop resisting and fighting the fear and just go with it.
In the movie, Three Kings, there was a scene where a soldier was about to go into battle and asks the sergeant “How do I get courage?” Sergeant answered, “Son, you do the thing you’re afraid of and then you get the courage.”

You have all the answers to your problems inside you right now. Allow them to emerge, trust yourself and look for the opportunities for growth in everything that happens. You’re a lot more powerful than you think.

Even since I started working with Lauren Archer at Hypnosis West, I have seen an unbelievable change in my life. After only 3 sessions, I was astounded at the effectiveness of something that I was so skeptical of at first. A momentous event occurred during my third session, for the first time in 5 years I was finally completely pain free for several hours. I cannot put into words how amazing Lauren Archer is. She has helped me in ways I never expected.
